Effective September 1, 2020, Verizon is imposing an additional fee of $.0025 for every text message sent to a Verizon subscriber. When a message (or call) is being sent to a subscriber of a specific carrier, this is known as a termination fee. This carrier/termination fee is being imposed industry-wide effective September 1, 2020, and all text messaging platform providers will be impacted by this additional fee.
That means all commercial, toll-free traffic will be subject to the fee regardless of your text messaging provider.
However, we are pleased to announce that Txtra will NOT pass this fee through to our subscribers. All of our plans and pricing structures will remain unchanged and there will be no additional fee for Txtra customers.
Verizon Toll-free Carrier Fee Change FAQs
Are there any additional charges related to Verizon’s toll-free carrier fee?
In addition to the fee that Verizon is imposing, there is an additional fee for carrier lookup. The fee for this is $0.001 per contact. In order to determine the carrier of contact(s) and to assess whether or not the termination fee should be imposed, we conduct carrier lookup on each contact being sent a message. In order to make sure the carrier of the contact(s) is up to date we conduct carrier lookup on every send but not more than once per 24 hours.
Again, this fee is also already incorporated into Txtra pricing and will not have any impact on our prices. All of our plans and pricing structures will remain unchanged and there will be no additional fee for Txtra customers.
What kind of information is received during carrier lookup?
We run carrier lookup on each contact every time they are sent a message but not more than once per 24 hours. This lookup tells us the line type and carrier of the contact. Examples of line types include mobile, landline, VoIP, or unknown. Examples of carriers include ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, or smaller/regional/unknown carriers.
When you send a text messaging campaign or a message via our API, if the contact(s) carrier lookup has not been run in the last 24 hours, then it will be. If it has been run in the last 24 hours, it will be skipped.
